Andy Hall (Chairman)
Andy is CEO at Adcock Ingram Holdings Limited, where he has been for the past nine years. Prior to this Andy was at Ernst & Young for 13 years, as a partner in the assurance practice, in charge of Life Sciences. Andy spent his early years in retail pharmacy and at Pfizer and is a Pharmacist and Chartered Accountant by qualification. He is married to Lynn, who is also a Pharmacist and they have two sons, Travis and Justin - Justin is currently at St Davids and Travis matriculated from St David's in 2015. Andy took over the Chairmanship of the Foundation from outgoing Chair Robin Smith in July 2016.
Simon Denny (Vice-Chairman)
Simon is Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank in South Africa. Simon specialises in corporate finance, advising local and global corporates on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt capital raising. Simon matriculated from St David's in 1994 and previously served as a Trustee of the Old Boys' Bursary Fund and on the Committee of the Old Boys' Association. Simon holds BCom, BCom(Hons) and LLB degrees and is a qualified Chartered Accountant. Simon was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Foundation in February 2017.
Brother Jude Pieterse
Br Jude served as Teacher, Principal and Provincial in the former Marist Province of South Africa. He founded the Catholic Institute of Education and also served as Secretary General of the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference. When the new Marist Province of Southern Africa was formed he was appointed the first Provincial. Over the years he has served on a variety of committees, boards and trusts.
John is the Chairman of the St David’s Board of Governors and has served the board for several years. He has recently joined Discovery in the role of Chief Risk Officer, assisting the team in building the banking platform. John is married to Rene and together they have two sons. After starting their schooling in Grade 00, boths sons matriculated at St David's - Matthew at the end of 2015 and Luke at the end of 2016 - and both are currently studying in Cape Town.
Darrell is an Old Boy of St David’s and was the 1986 Head Boy. Darrell has previously served as Chairman of the old Boys Committee for four years. He studied law and currently serves as a trustee on numerous funds; acts as a director and is a shareholder in various companies and acts as a fund manager in Angel Equity. Darrell has four children – his two boys were both schooled at St David’s from Gr 0 to Gr 12.
Tony matriculated at Christian Brothers College in Springs in 1974. He is a B.Com LLB graduate from Wits University. He is a practising attorney and has spent his professional life at Norton Rose (- pre-merger Deneys Reitz), where he became a partner in 1987. He practises in the construction and professional liability unit of the firm. Tony is married to Helen and they have five children, two of whom were educated at St David’s. Tony is a past chairman of the Board of Governors of St David’s, and was instrumental in establishing the Foundation in February 2006. His hobbies include wing shooting, fly fishing, adventure motorcycling and travel.
Gianni Mariano, PhD
Gianni holds a doctorate in Management and is a Chartered Marketer. He is co-founder and CEO of the Mastrantonio Group and is Director of Colle Rosso, a marketing strategy consultancy. He is a member of the Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) Board as well as a founding member of the BASA Mentorship Programme and is Chairman of the Board at Artist Proof Studio. Gianni is also a member of the Vega School of Brand Leadership's Regional and National Councils and Chairman of the Sisters of Mercy General and Education Trusts. Gianni is married to Manuela and they have three children. He is a Marist Old Boy and both their boys were educated at St David’s.
Conor Mc Fadden
Conor matriculated from St David's in 1991 and holds a BA, LLB, HDip Company Law and LLM (Tax) from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a practising attorney and a partner at Fasken Martineau, an international business law firm. He specialises in corporate tax and mergers and acquisitions. Conor is married to Wendy and they have one son who is at St David’s.
Willy Castle (ex-officio - Marist Old Boys' Chairman)
Willy was educated at St David's Marist Inanda, and entered Grade 1 in 1957. The Marist Brothers had a big influence in Willy's life and took care of him whilst he was at school. He was a prefect and obtained his Honours blazer in Matric. After matriculating Willy worked at Barclays Bank, African Eagle Life and studied at the JCE before joining the staff at St David's in 1978. He is married to Linda and has a daughter, Robyn, and two sons, Matthew and Andrew, who both matriculated at St David's. During 2014 Willy was Headmaster of the Prep School and is currently Chair of the Marist Old Boys' Association.
Mike Greeff: (ex-officio - Director of the Marist Schools Council)
Mike joined St David’s from the business world having run his own business for eight years in the International Development Finance arena. Mike was involved with St David’s as a consultant for many years before his appointment as Chief Executive of St David’s in 2006. In April 2015 Mike was appointed to the position of Director of the Marist Schools Council, a position which will increase Mike’s involvement with all aspects of the Marist world, and the five Marist Schools in South Africa.
Graeme Edwards, PhD (ex officio – Head:Prep School)
With some 27 years in education, eighteen of which have been as the Head of an Independent Catholic School, Graeme Edwards describes himself as being passionate about education, a lifelong learner and family man. Graham has a PhD in Education and has presented academic papers throughout South Africa, and in Botswana, Swaziland, Spain, Ireland, Canada and the United States of America. In addition to practicing educational leadership, Graeme enjoys engaging with broader educational structures. He served on the Board of Special Olympics, South Africa, from 2007 - 2012, and was previously Executive Chairman of the Catholic Schools' Council and Chairman of the Central ISASA Executive committee. He has served on the ISASA Council, the SAHISA Council, and the curriculum committee for Independent Preparatory Schools in Gauteng.
Graeme is married to Terry. They have been married for 26 years and have two children. Andrew, 23, is studying to be a chiropractor; and Daniel, 20, is a third-year electrical engineering students at WITS. As a family they enjoy holidays together and hiking. Family time is very important to Graeme and, in other spare time, he enjoys restoring vintage cars and reading.
Mike Thiel (ex officio – Executive Headmaster)
Mike joined St David’s as Headmaster of the High School in January 2014, before becoming Executive Headmaster in May 2015. Educated at Christian Brothers’ College, Kimberley and the University of Cape Town, Mike has since been headmaster at CBC Kimberley, Clifton College and the Dominican Convent School. Mike believes strongly in the role of independent education to transform South African society and is committed to innovative structures to achieve this, with the work of the Foundation being critical to do this in the St. David’s context. Mike is married and has four children, with whom he enjoys time away in the bush and reading, and hopes one day to find balance between his work and family life.
Lara Klement (ex officio – Advancement Manager)
Lara completed her Honours Degree in Social Work in 1993 and worked as a counsellor before starting her own businesses in 1999 - a marketing consultancy and an education and training consultancy specialising in working primarily with schools and corporate clients. Lara was appointed as Foundation and Marketing Manager after working with St David’s as a marketing consultant and is currently Advancement Manager. She is married with 2 children.
Fiona Budd (Foundation Manager)
Fiona trained in Durban and at the Royal Ballet School in London, UK, and danced professionally with PACT Ballet for seven years, before working for a private bank. In 2000 she was one of the 6 Founder Members of The South African Ballet Theatre where she also danced as Senior Soloist, before taking the reins as Managing Director. In 2011 she was selected as one of the first ten South African Volunteers on the Vodacom Change the World Programme, working as Fundraiser and Marketer for the Sandton SPCA. In 2012 she joined CAF Southern Africa (a non-profit working to facilitate giving, philanthropy, social investment and volunteering) as Business Development Manager and presented on behalf of CAFSA at the international WINGS Philanthropy Conference in Istanbul, Turkey, in March 2014. In October 2014 she joined the St David's Marist Foundation where she is currently Foundation Manager.
