Michael Jervis Cycles to Gold

St David’s Marist Inanda was proudly represented at both the Continental African Track Championships (CAC) in Nigeria and the UCI Junior Track World Championships in Israel by grade 11 student, Michael Jervis.

We congratulate Michael for competing at this prestigious level as well as for the pleasing results he obtained at both these competitions. At the CAC, Michael won continental gold in the team pursuit, continental silver in the Omnium (made up of 4 different races), as well as continental silver in the 3km individual pursuit. He also placed 4th in the elimination and 6th in the scratch. Above this, Michael also raced his 3km pursuit in a time of 3:30, making him one of 5 South Africans in history to break 3:30 as a junior in this event. This excellence continued at the UCI Junior Track World Championships, and Michael broke 2 South African records in the Team Pursuit and Team Sprint. He is currently ranked 20th worldwide for the 3km pursuit in his category. Michael is on track to receive both his South African Protea blazer and full national colours.

We are extremely proud of this Marist gentleman for his dedication to this discipline as well as his numerous achievements. Well done, Michael!

Warwick Bradford Climbs to Provincial Representation

Grade 9 student, Warwick Bradford, was selected earlier in the year to represent Gauteng in the South African Rock Climbing provincial competition, which was held in the Western Cape. Warwick, who has been climbing for the past 6 years, participated in 2 different categories of the competition – Bouldering and Lead.

Bouldering involves the climbing of technical routes that can be as high as 6 metres without ropes, with the goal being to climb and problem-solve set routes within a time restriction. Climbing Lead requires the climber to climb as high as possible within a set time limit. This category involves walls up to 20 meters high, but requires the climber to clip their safety rope onto the wall as they climb.

We congratulate Warwick on his placement of 13th and 11th in Bouldering and Lead respectively, as well as for competing at such a high level in the sport. We look forward to Warwick climbing to even greater heights in the coming years.

Charlie Dewar Rides to National Success

In July of this year, Charlie Dewar in Grade 11 was selected as reserve for the South African Junior Polo team. Charlie represented his country and school proudly in a match against Zambia over the first weekend of September.

Along with this incredible achievement, Charlie has also participated in many other tournaments across the country, competing at a very high level. This includes his accomplishment of reaching the final of the 2022 South African Championships, and winning the prize for best string of horses twice.

We are incredibly proud of Charlie and his many achievements.
