Celebrating Faith and Community: Highlights of Recent Spiritual Events
At St David's School, spirituality plays a vital role in shaping the lives of our students and fostering a sense of community. We are delighted to share some of the recent spiritual events that have brought our school community closer together and deepened our connection to our faith.
Champagnat Day Celebration
On June 6th, we came together in a beautiful Mass to honour the Feast Day of our beloved founder, St. Marcellin Champagnat. The Mass was also live-streamed, allowing our greater Marist community to join us online. Following the Mass, we enjoyed the traditional Champagnat Day festivities, creating cherished memories for our students and staff.
Catholic Schools’ Grade 11 Mass: A Lesson in Generosity
Our Grade 11 students displayed their generosity during the Catholic Schools’ Grade 11 Mass. They donated a significant amount of non-perishable food items to support the Cathedral Soup Kitchen, demonstrating the spirit of giving that is integral to our school's values.
World Youth Day Tour 2023: A Global Spiritual Adventure
A group of our College boys attended the World Youth Day Tour in 2023. The boys and staff attended Catechesis and Mass in Cascais, Portugal, with the Archbishop of Birmingham Bernard Longley as part of their WYD 2023 Experience. A highlight was the arrival of Pope Francis in the area. This exciting event provided our boys with the opportunity to connect with young people from around the world, share their faith, and embark on a spiritual journey that was both enlightening and enriching.
Crowning of Mary: A Symbol of Devotion
A touching moment occurred during Catholic Schools’ Week in late May when our school hosted the Crowning of Mary ceremony for the first time. In the serene ambience of the Garden of Mary, our Prep boys and staff gathered to crown the statue of Our Lady. This event reminded us of the importance of devotion and unity in our Catholic community.

Catholic Bible Foundation Youth Weekend 2023: Empowering Future Leaders
St David's was proud to host the Catholic Bible Foundation Youth Weekend in collaboration with the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference and Radio Veritas. Over two inspiring days, we brought together 200 participants from various Catholic schools to engage in meaningful discussions on pressing issues facing young teens, including mental health, substance abuse, and sexuality.
The weekend culminated in celebrating the Solemnity of Pentecost, a spiritually uplifting experience presided over by His Grace Emeritus Archbishop William Slattery OFM of Pretoria. Participants also had the unique opportunity to enjoy a coffee session with His Grace, deepening their understanding of faith and community.
