Community Engagement and Outreach

From the Community Engagement and Outreach portfolio, we would like to extend a big thank you to the St David’s Marist Inanda Community for making 2023 a year of impact.

  • Thank you to the boys who participated in the 28 weekly visits to the Alexandra old-age home and nursery school; your presence and engagement every week were the highlight of the residents' and children’s week.
  • Thank you for the hard labour involved in the 6 days of holiday service at the Alexandra nursery school; your gardening, sanding, and painting of all the burglar bars, doors and jungle gyms has transformed and brightened the school.
  • Thank you for the donation of 3600 packs of sanitary pads that have supported 230 girls at MC Weiller. Our monthly visits to the school and the engagement with the girls has not only impacted the girls receiving pads, but made a positive impact on the community by challenging and changing the narrative around menstruation.
  • Thank you for participating in our partnership with Little Eden; not only did you collect pecan nuts, but you played an instrumental role in fundraising for the home and highlighting the work that is done at the home through your participation in the various markets.
  • Thank you for your participation in the termly inter-schools events that we participated in together with Fight-With-Insight, Qrate and Pad Princess and the St Vincent de Paul Society; our regular engagement together with Kingsmead, Roedean and De La Salle Holy Cross is always noted and appreciated.
  • Thank you for the donations this year:
    • R 30 767,15 to CANSA from the Shavathon;
    • 2060 litres of bottled water to the community of Hammanskraal;
    • 4000 bags of “soup-in-a-bag” to Bet on Better for the community of Mafikeng from Mandela Day;
    • 430 tubes of toothpaste to the Johannesburg Junior Council for their care packs;
    • 304 bags and 2,2 tonnes of old clothing to our Clothes-To-Goods collection;
    • 70 pairs of old school shoes by our Grade 12s to Sole 2 Sole;
    • 100 care packs for the residents and staff of the Alexandra old age home.

None of this would have been possible if it was not for the enthusiasm and participation of the boys and their families. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who have supported these impactful events.
