Extramural Achievements Showcase Diverse Talents at St David's Marist Inanda
St David's Marist Inanda boys have been making waves, showcasing the range of extramural opportunities and experiences. From music to debate, drama and cultural celebrations, the boys have been engaged in a wide range of activities that showcase their talents and dedication.
Choir and Bands: The school's choir embarked on a musical journey to the Drakensberg Boys' Choir School, where they participated in the prestigious Music in the Mountains event. They joined forces with Kingsmead and Brescia House for collaborative and highly entertaining performances. The choir also delighted their peers with several outstanding internal performances. Simultaneously, the school's bands have captivated audiences, including those at Kingsmead, and collaborated with the choir to create wonderful musical experiences.
LEDI Festival: A celebration of South African cultural expression, the LEDI Festival spanned three unforgettable days. It included traditional song performances alongside Roedean School, engaging arts activities involving students in Grades 8 to 11, and a spectacular 4-hour showcase in the amphitheater that coincided with the Winter Market. The festival not only celebrated culture but also fostered a sense of unity and appreciation for the diverse heritage of South Africa.
Debating: The school's debating teams have been making strides in the world of competitive debate. Concluding the initial rounds of the South African Council for English Education (SACEE), the junior debaters stood atop the leaderboard, showcasing their exceptional skills and potential. The school is proud to have a wealth of talented junior debaters and anticipates the emergence of strong senior teams in the years to come. Brendan Hope and Joshua Muzembe have particularly stood out, excelling on various national debating teams and bringing recognition to the school.
Drama: The Drama department has been a hub of creativity, hosting a one-act play festival at the Theatre on the Square. Students took to the stage with enthusiasm and talent, leaving audiences captivated by their performances. Additionally, the Drama students participated in the Festival for Excellence in the Dramatic Arts, where they showcased their dramatic prowess and dedication to the craft.
Best Speakers 4 July: To recognise the oratory skills of their boys, St David's Marist Inanda held the Best Speakers event on July 4th. Both junior and senior speakers took to the stage in the school's auditorium. Prior to the mid-term break, the junior speakers engaged in knock-out rounds, with the top four speakers earning a coveted spot at Best Speakers. This event not only highlights the public speaking talents within the school but also provides a platform for students to refine their communication skills.
