Montrose Secures Victory in The Cricket Company's u12 Boys' Cricket Tournament at St David's
Montrose Primary school, playing under the name Montrose Meteors retained their title at The Cricket Company St David’s Marist Inanda primary schools T10 tournament on Saturday, beating the Temba Bavuma Foundation-supported Temba Tigers by 33 runs in the final.
Montrose’s victory was revenge for their 6-wicket loss to the same side on Friday, but they were good value for their victory in the final, following good wins over St Stithians, Jan Cilliers and Rivonia earlier in the day.
The Temba Bavuma side – made up of players who are part of the Central Gauteng Lions talented players programme, with two more from Langa in Cape Town, Bavuma’s original home, have been a revelation. They won all their games before coming unstuck in the final and are packed with talented cricketers.
Rivonia came third, beating St Peter’s in that playoff game.
The tournament was unusual in that it featured boys in Grades 5 and 6 only, and the 10 overs format was made for all-out attack. Local regulations ensured that every player had to be fully involved in each game and a team made up of all their12 and 13th men made up the numbers for the 7th place playoff game.
The results of the playoff games were:
1st place – Montrose 98/4, Temba Tigers 65/4. Montrose won by 33 runs
3rd place – Rivonia 98/4, St Peter’s 64/6. Rivonia won by 30 runs.
5th place – Jan Cillers 2/6, St David’s 56/1. St David’s won by 9 wickets.
