St David’s Marist Boys: Building Bridges, Changing Lives Through Active Service
In a true testament to Marist Education's commitment to active service and youth empowerment, the boys at St David’s Marist Inanda have dedicated themselves to making a positive impact in their communities. The past week marked a special occasion as the boys engaged in various acts of service during Youth Day week, reflecting on their ability to effect real change through their voices, time, and resources.
The boys' weekly service took them to Alexandra, where they actively participated in working and playing with the children at the local creche, as well as spending quality time with the elderly at the old age home. These intergenerational relationships have flourished, bringing joy and wisdom to both the young and the elderly, as they cherish their shared experiences.
Addressing the issue of period poverty, Selima House spearheaded a sanitary pad collection program in collaboration with MC Weiler Primary. This special event was made even more remarkable with the generous donation of textbooks from Ferndale bookstore and shoes from Little Eden. Such acts of kindness and support contribute to breaking down barriers and empowering young girls to overcome challenges related to menstrual hygiene.
In the spirit of active service, St David’s Marist Inanda boys, staff, and parents recently came together with the residents of Little Eden in Bapsfontein for a pecan nut collection. Little Eden, a home for individuals with intellectual disabilities, relies on such initiatives to generate funds. This collaboration served as a bridge between generations and fostered a love for meaningful work among the participants. By engaging in this activity, the boys demonstrated their dedication to being change-makers and building a better future for all.
Marist Education's emphasis on active service and youth engagement goes beyond the classroom walls. It instills in students a sense of responsibility, empathy, and the understanding that they possess the power to make a difference. As the boys continue to devote their time and efforts to serving their communities, they embody the values of compassion, solidarity, and social justice that are at the core of Marist Education.
Through their actions, the boys of St David’s Marist Inanda demonstrate that they are not only learning, but also living the lessons of active service, fostering intergenerational connections, addressing social issues, and working towards positive change. Their commitment to being true change-makers serves as an inspiration to their peers and the wider community, leaving a lasting impact on the lives they touch.
