St David's Nurtures Future Leaders and Inspires Change Through Leadership Initiatives
St David's Marist Inanda is dedicated to fostering leadership and citizenship development among its students, providing them with a diverse range of opportunities to grow as individuals and community contributors. Recent events and initiatives have showcased the school's commitment to shaping future leaders.
Leadership Opportunities
Several St David's Marist Inanda boys showcased their leadership abilities at various events and forums:
- Robert Jervis (Grade 10)
- Aryan Bhatt (Grade 11)
- Bonga Mathe (Grade 11)
- Siyabonga Nkomo (Grade 11)
These students represented the school at the Inter-school forum hosted at St John's College. Their participation highlighted the school's dedication to encouraging active citizenship.
The school also sent two Grade 11 students, Jack Brady and Lukhanyo Oniwe, to the Embrace Conference at St Benedict's College in Bedfordview. The conference focused on issues related to transformation and diversity in sports, and the boys represented our college admirably.
In collaboration with Brescia House, the school hosted the Grade 8 & 9 leadership forum, where 30 young men from the eight school houses participated, gaining valuable leadership insights.
In term 2, Mr Bauer organized an optional leadership forum on Thursday mornings. This forum attracted speakers from various school departments, sparking discussions on leadership matters. The school's leadership philosophy centers on producing change-makers in society, industry, and the school itself.
Conversation Assemblies
St David's hosted an inspiring guest speaker, Robbie Brozin, the co-founder of Nando's, a beloved South African brand. Robbie shared his journey and insights with the students, making the session interactive and thought-provoking.
Robbie Brozin's story began with his introduction to Portuguese-style peri-peri chicken at a humble cafe, which eventually led to the creation of Nando's. The brand's success is rooted in the belief that "it's the people that make the chicken," a philosophy Robbie instilled from the beginning. Beyond Nando's, Robbie is involved in various ventures aimed at uplifting the African human spirit.
Boys were particularly inspired by Nando's social impact initiatives, including:
- The Nando's Art Initiative: A program showcasing the work of Southern African artists in Nando's restaurants worldwide.
- Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator: An organization dedicated to empowering over 1.5 million young South Africans to contribute to a growing economy.
- Goodbye Malaria: A program aimed at eradicating malaria globally, with significant achievements in Mozambique.
- Constitution Hill: Robbie's involvement as a trustee of Constitutional Hill Trust, promoting the value of the Constitution.
- Collaboration with Wits University: Partnering with the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital to use digital technology to amplify Bara's legacy and secure its future.
Robbie Brozin expressed a keen interest in St David's philosophy and its students, seeking synergies for collaboration with the Jozi Gold project he spearheads in the city.
Grade 10 Leadership Camp
Marist Boys' School students had the opportunity to attend the Cyara campsite in partnership with Chrysalis Projects. This outdoor education experience aimed to further develop their leadership skills and foster teamwork.
St David's Marist Inanda boys' School continues to empower its students to become leaders who make a positive impact on our school and society. With a commitment to leadership development and inspiring conversations, the school is shaping young minds to create change in the world.
