A Jam-Packed Term for the Junior Preparatory
Term One has been extremely busy for our Junior Prep boys! Beyond doing remarkably well in settling into the new routines of a new grade and class, this term has been filled with activities and events. The boys have taken advantage of every opportunity to learn, develop, and grow, in the classroom, on the sports field, on stage, or outside of the school gates.
The Grade Ones were integrated into the more formal learning programme of the prep school and we are exceptionally pleased with how they have settled in. Many “firsts” were experienced: caps & blazers, private music lessons during the academic mornings, tuck shop days, a wider range of extra-curricular activities, an Inter-House gala & the school bell indicating a change of lessons! Mrs Holden returned from maternity leave, and Mrs MacPherson resumed her teaching duties as the Grade One Time-to-Shine teacher.
The Grade Two boys played their first inter-school fixtures in mixed-ability teams against KES, The Ridge and Pridwin. This was a big step up for our boys, and their excitement of going on a bus was palpable! New furniture for the Grade Two classrooms arrived from KCSA on a big ship from Germany. The boys were overjoyed to find their learning spaces looking fresh and to have flexible seating options tailored to enhance their physical development and the more modern teaching style this generation of children needs.
The Grade Three boys were introduced to their first ability-team inter-school fixtures in swimming, cricket and athletics this term. Valuable lessons and life skills were learnt, and many emotions were held by staff as the boys experienced winning and losing in a “higher-stakes” manner. They also enjoyed an outing to the Honeydew Mazes.
The Junior Prep boys participated in two Inter-House events this term: the Junior Prep gala and the Foundation Phase athletics. They also enjoyed the PTA Swim-a-Thon fundraising event. A book character dress-up day and World Read Aloud Day were enthusiastically supported. Our Junior Prep music assembly provided the Junior Prep Choir, Grade 3 marimba band and guitar group the opportunity to perform and show what they have accomplished this term.
We are incredibly proud of all our boys and how they have taken advantage of every opportunity to learn, develop, and grow!
