St David’s Marist Foundation Highlights

Thank you for your great Marist hearts!

We are truly thankful for the beautiful philanthropic support that has continued from our St David’s community and beyond in the first five months of this year, in support of so many aspects of St David’s and the two physical campuses. St David’s is a specialist in boys’ education and your support allows us to support St David’s in continuing to offer a quality values-based education grounded in the Marist ethos.

Our donors (St David’s community, corporates and local and international foundations) have donated just under R6 million to the Foundation during this time, primarily in support of the following projects and programmes:

  • St David’s Memorial Pipe Organ Appeal (to be installed this year)
  • St David’s Bursary Fund
  • St David’s Aquatics Circle
  • St David’s Marist Inanda Alexandra Social Compact Programme Fund
  • St David’s Marist Inanda Alexandra Campus Development

A great joy in April was the receipt of our first-ever cryptocurrency donation via the online cryptocurrency philanthropy platform The Giving Block. This donation by a Canadian donor, of 1.51 Bitcoin ($100 000), was made in support of the St David’s Bursary Fund. Incredibly, this was followed in June by a further cryptocurrency donation from another international donor, of an amount of 1 Bitcoin ($70 000).

Following the successful completion of the Foundation’s 2023 audit, and the signing off of the Foundation’s audited financial statements at our most recent Trustees meeting of 15 May, the Foundation’s 2023 Annual Report will be released during the course of this term. We look forward to sharing this report with you, which honours and thanks to all who have contributed to and through the Foundation in support of the St David’s Marist Inanda campuses.

The new requirement by SARS, that going forward all registered PBOs upload their issued Section 18A tax certificates via eFiling by 31 May each year, was successfully completed by the Foundation on 30 May. In the coming weeks we will send out individual Section 18A tax certificates for record purposes, to those donors who have not yet received these during the course of this past year (2023/2024 tax year).

Please do not hesitate to contact us to set up a coffee or a call (foundation@stdavids.co.za) should you wish to philanthropically partner with us for the St David’s community – whether it be through capital and campus development funding, bursary funding, or funding support for the St David’s Marist Inanda Alexandra campus and Social Compact Programme.

(Donations to the St David’s Business in Education BEE Bursary Fund qualify for Socio-Economic Development and Skills Development points).

Save the date: Next month we will be holding the Foundation’s annual Business, CSI and Philanthropy networking Breakfast on Wednesday 17 July in the Maristonian – more details to follow.
