The Academic Endeavours of the Senior Preparatory
This term has been very exciting for the Senior Preparatory, marked by a blend of hands-on STEM exploration, emphasis on effective communication skills, enhancement of study techniques, and engagement with cutting-edge educational technology. These endeavours reflect our ongoing commitment to providing a holistic and dynamic educational environment that equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
The term started with an exciting opportunity for our Grade 5 boys- a robotics workshop! As part of our commitment to providing dynamic and engaging educational experiences, we have introduced robotics into the curriculum for our fifth-grade students. Enhancing critical thinking skills, fostering creativity, and promoting teamwork and collaboration. Through hands-on activities and projects, students can explore the fascinating world of robotics while developing essential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) competencies.
Effective communication is a cornerstone of success in both academic and personal realms, and we are dedicated to nurturing our students' ability to express themselves confidently and eloquently in English. And so, our Grade 4-7 English declamations took place this term, demonstrating our senior preparatory boys' high quality of speech writing and delivery. These are some key aspects of our English speeches program; public speaking lessons, speech writing taught in classes, and public speaking practice across the subjects.
Our Grade 6 boys participated in the Study Fit program that introduces and builds on study skills with growth – mindset principles, memory tools, comprehension skills – keywords and headings, the study recipe, visual mapping and making summaries, assessment strategies, and time management. The rest of the senior primary will complete this course in terms 2 and 3.
Finally, the term ended with a successful EdTech cluster meeting hosted at St David’s and workshopped by our own St David’s staff introducing topics like bridging the gap for our students, Scope IT offerings, and using the 6Bricks program in the Junior Primary.
These endeavours reflect our ongoing commitment to providing a holistic and dynamic educational environment that equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
We wish the St David's community a restful holiday and are looking forward with excitement to the new challenges and experiences the 2nd term will bring.
