The PTA Corner
The PTA has had a successful term and we are grateful for the St David's community's support, involvement, and assistance in our endeavours this term.
Do-Good Portfolio
The Do-Good Portfolio adopted San Salvador Home last year and have had a considerable impact over this time. This year the main task was to do a clean up of the garden area and plant a vegetable garden that will benefit the home over the longer term. The team of boys and parents who were involved in this project did a remarkable job and have made a significant difference to the Home. We were blessed to have Father Privilege to lead us in prayer & bless the vegetable garden that was created. An Easter party was also hosted for the residents and staff. The afternoon was filled with joy and laughter, with the residents enjoying a magician show and many Easter spoils. The work with San Salvador Home will continue as part of the PTA, Prep and College's Community Engagement initiatives next term and we look forward to seeing even further impact.
Events Portfolio
Dads and Lads
On Saturday, 6th April the PTA hosted 400 gents at the annual PTADads and Lads event. The event was an opportunity for our dads and their lads to come together with like minded individuals to spend an evening together and build community spirit within our school.
There was a stellar line-up of speakers who all had incredible stories to share and also allowed an opportunity to engage with the audience through Q&A. It was wonderful to welcome back Old Boy Temba Bavuma (International Cricketer, Proteas Cricket Captain in Tests and ODI and philanthropist) to his alma mater as one of our esteemed guest speakers. He was joined by fellow guest speakers Bjorn Fortuin (Professional Cricketer and Proteas Contracted Cricket Squad) and Siseko Ntondini (Canoeing Star and Canoeing Partner to Piers Cruikshank author of Confluence and movie Beyond the River). Gcobani Bobo (Former South African rugby player and a dad at Mini Marist was an exceptional MC, elevating the evening even further. We offer our sincere thanks to our guests who all gave up of their time voluntarily to be at our event.
As is tradition, our in-house auctioneer (and PTA Chair) Rutendo Hwingdingi kept our guests on their toes, while managing to secure top dollar for all auction items that were very kindly donated for the event. The PTA Events Portfolio raised an incredible R100,000, and this is all due to the support of our amazing community and all involved in bringing this event to fruition. Thank you!
Swim-A-Long
Wow! Thank you to our prep school community for your amazing support of this year’s swim-a-long. From the parents who supported this event to the boys and staff who swam (and of course Mr Clogg's annual 'suit swim'). Not only was it a really fun family day, but we also raised R170k to go towards our various school projects.
The “BIG EVENT” sponsorship
The PTA is hard at work planning a BIG EVENT for our community in late September. We will speak at many parent events to tell you more about our plans.
There are ample sponsorship opportunities, including marketing and branding opportunities, for businesses that partner with us on this event.
