Message from Executive Headmaster, Mr Mike Thiel

We are delighted to share the IEB examinations results of the St David’s Marist Inanda Matric Class of 2024 with you and ask you to join us in congratulating them on their remarkable achievements. These results are easily on a par with the best ever and this group of 148 young men have crowned what was an incredible year of excellence and impact with a stunning set of marks, achieving an exceptional 444 distinctions across 20 subjects. An unprecedented eight boys placed in the IEB Outstanding Achiever category, and 12 boys achieved a 90% or above average.

The young men of the Class of 2024 embraced all that St David’s has to offer, excelling in every area of school life, from academics to sport to cultural activities, as well as displaying excellent leadership abilities and being highly involved in community engagement and social impact projects. They have been the epitome of Marist gentlemen, displaying qualities of respect, humility and servant leadership - qualities that are sorely needed in our world.

Our Matric Class of 2024 ably led the boys across our two campuses and were instrumental in helping to lead impactful programmes and initiatives, both within the school and in a number of communities, leave a lasting legacy of impact and social change.

A Marist education, as offered at St David’s is not just about academic achievement but about personal growth and character formation, with the boys’ school journey curated to expose them to the relevant content, skills, experiences, challenges and opportunities that allow them to grow and thrive at each stage of development. Matric is the culmination of the boys’ schooling journey, and the Class of 2024 truly put into practice so much of what they had learnt over their schooling years. A large number of boys excelled at the highest level of school achievement across a range of sports and cultural activities, representing the school at 1st team, provincial and even national level - a number of these are also our top academic achievers. The academic results in the 2024 IEB examinations are their final accomplishment in their school journey and these excellent results stand them in good stead for the next phase of their educational and life journey. We have no doubt that these young men will continue to have an impact on society as St David’s Marist Inanda Old Boys.

We also extend our congratulations to parents, guardians, benefactors and extended families– their support for their boys as well as for the school has enabled these young men to thrive and flourish and it has been a privilege to share this journey with these families.

We thank and congratulate our teachers and extended staff who work tirelessly to help these young men achieve their potential and enjoy an enriching schooling experience. Whether at Mini-Marist foundations, Matric preparation, or anywhere in between, our remarkable teachers can be equally proud of these results. Their commitment and passion for education and their investment on a

personal level in each of these young men’s lives is greatly appreciated. This commitment is well reflected in the results that the boys have achieved.

Whilst we take this opportunity to showcase our top academic achievers, we celebrate each of our boys – each has travelled a different and personal journey with its own challenges and unique circumstances, and we stand in admiration of each of them and what they have achieved, today and throughout their time at St David’s. We share below a summary of our top achievers and a summary of some of our results.

We wish these young men every success and happiness as they now leave us as school boys and join the ranks of 83 years of alumni. We look forward to watching their progress and to welcoming them back as Old Boys in the years to come. We have no doubt that they will continue to live their Marist values and to have an impact in the world.
